• The Legend: Pirate Thomas Veal supposedly hid in a natural cave with treasure in 1658 before an earthquake sealed him inside.
• The Excavation: Spiritualist Hiram Marble and his son Edwin spent over 30 years (starting in the 1850s) digging, following directions from the "ghost" of the pirate.
• Visiting: The site features an iron door in a large cleft in the rock. The cave is dark, damp and leads to a small pool of water.
